Friday evening , August 20, 2010, Beginner's Introductory Workshop, "DISCOVERING THE MAGIC OF HAND DRUMMING" will be held at DRUMZ from 7pm-8:30pm with teacher and DRUMZ owner, Sherry Gingras. Sherry has been teaching hand drumming in the Austin community for over ten years and has taught hundreds and hundreds of people in the Austin area to connect to the hidden musician inside, unlock the door to untapped creative potential, find a new means of self-discovery, self -expression, and personal empowerment, and experience the joy and fulfillment of group music-making as a meaningful conversation and a powerful pathway to connectedness and belonging. Rhythm has been a means of self-expression and a way to connect to one's own unique brilliance as well as a way to connect to community for eons! Indigenous cultures have used music and rhythm as a way to build and strengthen community bonds for centuries, as well as a means of discovering, affirming, and honoring one's own unique gifts and talents.
